Taking Rover out for a walk. This is the first walking cycle that I’ve done in my motion graphics, and I wanted to give the walk some character. I decided on a zero-gravity walk cycle because I hadn’t seen very many done before, and it had a built-in narrative. I’ve also been itching to do an animation featuring the Curiosity for a while. Since they’re called Mars Rovers, I thought it would be funny to draw it as a dog-like creature. I also noticed that in my animations that I had not included any women or persons of color, so I made sure to diversify my cast. I hope to further rectify the situation in future animations.
The texture used in this project was heavily based on this tutorial by Jacob Richardson (@jacobrmotion on Instagram). I really love the textural look on the mountains and the ground. It was slightly less successful on the robot, and I cut it from the human entirely because it breathed with the movement and was very distracting.
